Elephant and Donkey Quilt

Pixel quilting is all the rage, but it’s really not a new technique. In 1931, the Kansas City Star published a mosaic elephant pattern as a tribute to a beloved elephant at the local zoo. The next year, a companion quilt was released. This one featured a pixelated donkey named Giddap. Both are cute as can be, and so easy to put together!

Four Corners Quilt

Take a peek at a U.S. map, and you’ll notice that Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico are laid out like a giant four patch with perfectly nested seams and lovely 90-degree angles. The Four Corners Monument marks the spot where they all come together. It’s the only place in the country where you can stand in one spot and be in 4 states at once! This week Jenny is working on a Four Corners quilt. Each block brings together [...]

Basket of Blooms Quilt

When you give the gift of flowers, you’re sending a message – so choose carefully!   Sunflowers symbolize friendship, red roses represent romantic love, and bells of Ireland spread good luck. But a potful of petunias or orange lilies? Well, they pretty much say, “I hate your stinkin’ guts.” This week Jenny is stitching up a wonderful bouquet of fabric flowers, and you don’t have to worry! The gift of a quilt practically shouts, “Love ya!” Click HERE to watch [...]

Kite Season Quilt

Rumor has it that in 18th century Japan, kites were totally banned. The reason? Folks were having so much fun flying kites, they weren’t getting any work done. I have to admit, I can relate. When I get excited about a new quilt, everything else fades away. The dishes can pile up in the sink, the lawn can grow knee-high, but I’m happy as a clam in my sewing room with a stack of freshly pressed quilt blocks. This [...]

Jenny’s Doll Quilt

Most of us can recall a special quilt or two from childhood. A cherished baby blanket. The bedspread of your grandmother’s sleepover bed. A favorite camp quilt or picnic blanket. And you know what? I bet if you sift through your memories, you can even remember a print or two of patchwork, the smell of the fabric, and the softness of a well worn binding. Because the truth is, when you make a quilt for a child, you are [...]

River Log Cabin Quilt

Ever heard of diamond rain? Sounds impossible, but lightning storms on Saturn produce thousands of little sparklers every single year! And here on earth, we can get some pretty remarkable precipitation, too. In 1887, giant snowflakes fell on a Montana ranch; one was measured at a whopping 15 inches! It may seem impossible, but “impossible” things happen every day! This week Jenny is whipping up a little miracle of her own with the River Log Cabin Quilt. Because, while [...]

Australia is famous for its many national treasures: The Great Barrier Reef. The Sydney Opera House.  Koalas and kangaroos. And, of course, the ridiculously attractive Hugh Jackman. Nine Patch and Hourglass Quilt

This week’s new quilt combines two classic blocks, so please be sure to gather all the supplies necessary for both. (You might want to grab a pen. I’ll wait.) Are you ready? Ok, in order to build an entire quilt’s worth of nine patches and hourglasses, you’re going to need: 10-inch squares. That’s it! The end! Finito!
